Same question as Fred - why not just do a straight weld (with less chance of occlusion or porosity) rather than the quite odd fake-tig look?
There's some obvious gaps on the seams, too (the outer seams, not the deliberate ones on the spines).
Gotta say that I much prefer this (albeit it looks a little cold):

because people watch too much on YouTube where sometimes the wrong example is taken.Why so much weaving on the outside edge stuff ?
I was thinking more on this, and yes, if the plates were set edge to edge the corner would be pretty open.For those at dont do much real fabrication, It's a good way to build up an outside corner, a little back and forth. Nice and hot to burn through the corner to get penetrative, move back a bit to build up the profile without leaving a massive hot slug of risk of burn through.
