Technical Arc 175 TE

Hi all,

I've set my sights on the Technical Arc 175 TE Tig welder and hope to be pulling the trigger (literally) in the next day or two.

Just doing a bit of research though, and it doesn't seem like these come with a power cable, and that it isn't as simple as just plugging them in.

Page 24 of the manual seems to indicate that they need to be hardwired in position?

My workshop has been specced out with 18amp sockets and a proper distribution board, but do I need to be contacting my electrician to get him to look at this? I was defo under the impression after previous research that 18amp was enough for a welder like this.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey matey if you mean run it off a normal house hold plug then you should be fine u will just not be able to use full amperage I can only run 120 amps on mine for a short time before it trips the fuse

Well, I've got 18amp sockets which should be good enough for the 180amp transformer Mig I was originally looking at I think (it had a 16amp input fuse), so I figured they certainly would be on a 175w inverter machine?

I have a 175te and run it off a 3 pin plug up to around 150amps. Lovely welder. I'm no expert but I can't really tell it apart from the lorch and murex units at work.

Your book states 40 amps at 175 amps stick welding. Or 25 at 175 tig. The 40 does seem high, but think that is to do with the inrush current when sparking up.

In reality it all depends what your planning to weld. A 3.2 stick say 120 amps off a 13 amp plug no problem with that machines baby brother.

Your sockets will be blue 16 amp not 18. Id suggest speaking to your sparky about a single phase 32 amp socket. With a c breaker, sure sparkies will correct me. One issue you will find trying to use a normal plug is the cable will be too fat to fit it.

I run a thermal arc 200 amp acdc inverter tig of a 32 amp socket. No issues, dont often have it at 200 amps but have done mucking up ali welding.

Nah, I've done it no problem. You just need one of the black rubbery ones.
