Tec Arc, HD? Heavy Duty?

Hi chaps,

Been looking to get a another mig. Tec Arc compact 180-250 amp range seems to fit the bill.

However I know they offer extras at cost, spot timer, 110v etc. One of the options I can't find any info on is the HD (Heavy Duty) option. Now does anyone know what the HD option consists of?

I ask because I was speaking to a salesman the other day who said the Tec Arc machines he stocks, have a higher duty rate than said machines would have as normal. (In short he said they offer 2 types of the same machine, he stocks the better one which has a better duty cycle)

So I was wondering if this is the HD option? Or perhaps matey was talking crap!

Typically the only five mins I have got this week is on a Sunday, so I can't phone Tec Arc.

I thought they welded in High Definition. I'll get me coat. The only real way they can up the duty cycle is to use better quality components like transformers and better cooling. Do tec-arc have an email address you could contact them on so you can read it as and when ? It's at the bottom of their web site at the side of the phone number. It shouldn't take 5 minutes to type your questions

I believe a member here as just received a 285 amp HD portamig, I believe the HD refers to a 4 roller wire feed unit, plus a couple of other tweaks to a standard machine, possibly.

gsxr 1000 may have been the member with a HD unit, but I maybe wrong.

We bought a 285 portamig from Steve weld equip about 18 months ago, which had a higher duty cycle than normal 285 model. There was an option available for 4 roller wire feeder, if requested. Superb welder.
