TCT blade sharpening - worth it?

As per title really - I have an evolution rage 210 mm tct saw and I'm wondering about getting the blades sharpened. I have about 4 blades (2 of which are blunt) so I can send a couple or 3 off at a time if it makes it more cost effective.

I'd like to know people's thoughts on getting them sharpened - i.e. Is it cost effective compared to buying new, decent places to use, recommendations etc

that would depend on the make of blade . if it was quality and expensive its worth sharpening if cheap and cheerfull don't bother

Well, that's exactly why I'm asking.

I don't know how much it would cost to get one sharpened, and then afterwards what's the life span is like - I'd like to hear what direct experience other people have had (good or bad).

If the blades are, say £20 new (I know you can pick up erbauer ones a bit cheaper. It's been a couple of years since I bought the ones I have, and they were in a clearance so I don't know how much you can get them for now) but if you can get one touched up for a fiver per blade (for example) then it'd be worthwhile. If it's going to be nearer £20 and the blade won't last as long as new then it's probably not going to be worthwhile.

will cost more than a fiver a blade . a good quality expensive blade will be as good as new sharpened expensive being 30 quid+

Yeah, I was just using those figures for comparison, like I said I have no idea how much you can get it done for, but I'd like to know if it's cost effective compared to buying new.

Any evolution blade i've ever used has come to the end of its life when the teeth are chipped or missing, never blunted as such.

On mine it's taking an age to cut (only some small box section and even some wood I was cutting today) and it's noticeably hard work to get it through.

I've checked the teeth and they are all intact, but the edge feels dull compared to the new one.

I have the 255mm blade. £39 new. The current job I've been cutting through 70x70x5mm box section. At one point is just refused to cut. New blade sailed through it. Teeth look fine, but dull. I'll save the old one for wood.

Yeah, same as mine - I've had it about 12 months and its chomped its way through a fair bit of stuff, though if anything more wood than metal.

I've got a couple of new genuine evolution ones here and 1 erbauer one - it'll be interesting to see how they compare. The erbauer ones are only about £11 versus £25 for the original at screwfix (anyone got any cheaper sources?) so if they last well enough then I'll be happy.

You could always try touching up the face of the teeth freehand with a diamond file.

check you tube, there's a few vids on how to sharpen circular saw blades for wood with the cheap grinder diamond discs. Looks easy enough to make, I've got the bits / motor lined up for it, but haven't had the time. Sure the jigs could be adapted to suit the evolution saw blades. then you can do them at home.

I take it your not in to joinery then. the blades I use on my chopsaw never get near any metal or diry wood I just use a hand circular saw for cutting crap
