Taxis drivers charging more in bad weather?

Im seeing a lot of angry people on facebook regarding taxi drivers charging more money when the conditions are like this,

Am i the only one that doesnt see a problem with this? the jobs obv going to take longer, theyll be road's they cant even use .. how would they be able to just charge the same as they usualy would?

Or am i missing something here

It seems as if they want taxis to become charities everytime something happens,
obviously the drivers dont need to make a living

put it this way. I start from home and charge by the hour . I tell the customers if I call at peak traffic periods they have to pay my time .

I thought i might be loosing it for a second then, theres litteraly about 2.5k comments on one post all saying what robbbing all taxi drivers are and to boycott them ect

Not a taxi driver but come across the same when people hear my day rate. They think that's what I earn a day and can't see past that figure to what its costing me to do that days work. Then again they've probably spent all there lives working PAYE so why would they have a clue.

I was only really on there to check if i might be needed as the hospitals were asking for 4x4s ,they had a lot more offers than they needed, i think the nurses would prefer a new disco to my old defender

I didn't venture out much yesterday and te snow has pretty much gone here today, I didn't see much that would challenge my 90 and I would have been happy to travel in my 320 dog van - but a bit further east it was a bit more of a challenge.

I read Facebook to keep in touch with our dog walking group and a few ex work colleagues, the rest of the drivel is often amusing and occasionally worrying. From what I see a lot of people seem to believe anything they read on FB and Twitter and rarely seem to challenge / question the presented facts. I wonder if at its development, the printed word was received in a similar fashion? my guess is it probably was.

You'll get the odd few in a large post that will actually question it, the rest will blindly believe whats written and be very quick to comment how disgusted they are.

Bad weather will always make most people worst off. I assume this is about pre-booked taxis and not metered taxis? The Taxi drivers will want to charge more if the job takes them longer and costs them more for the job. If a person uses a taxi to get to their work place should the customer lose out buy being charged more just because of bad weather? Both the taxi driver and customer cannot win in this situation, one of them will always be losing out.

'I have to pay for a radio and terminal off the taxi company which works out at £110 per week. I then lease my taxi which is another £145 a week. Then I also have to put fuel in which is around £150 a week. So on average your weekly overheads are £400. Now ok at night time you can be more busy but if you factor in, no shows and times when it's quieter, you can normally average say around £10 per hour. So your overheads can possibly take 40 odd hours a week to earn. Then obviously you have to earn your living on top'

Bad weather, snow, road works, traffic jams and accidents are the bane of anybody that uses the roads to make their living. Taxi drivers are entitled to charge what they like to make a fair wage. For the customer they just want to see the same price for getting from A to B no matter what the weather. Some customer will think the taxi drivers are taking advantage and will not fully understand the true costs to the taxi driver.

The more I hear about social media the more I'm glad I don't do it, no farcebook, no twitter etc etc. I suppose these idiots also think it's scandalous that holiday firms put up their prices during school holidays and shops sell stuff cheaper after christmas after we've bought at full price before to give as presents

Taxis licensed by Edinburgh (including Private Hire) can't change their tariff, I believe - there are additional charges on xmas day and at new year but AFAIK they can't simply up their rates because of bad weather.

As long as they're up front and clear about the extra charges i think they're entitled to extra money for working in them conditions.

Farcebook is mostly over-30s, the young uns are all on Instagram and Snapchat, or so I'm told.
