Tar / bitumen for felt roof repair

The stuff you used to see roofers and road workers heating up in a galvanized watering can style thing over a gas ring, then pouring over the joints to seal them.

Anybody know where I can get some in small quantities? A kilo or two would be ample. Or has it been banned on H&S grounds?

Alternatively, anybody local have some they could sell me?

Bitumen keg. Normally 20Kg or 40 Kg. A very small quantity used to be available as a "repair cone":

Any decent roofing supplier sells the pitch, there`s a melting pot burner and lid here if you need to borrow one.

cheaper alternative use some torch on felt rolls same stuff to a degree will repair a roof

depending on where the leak is can you not put a tarp layed down with bricks if one of the edges and then leave for the next month sould see better weather then and it would then dry out before fixing

I have a leak on the roof above our bedroom. The surface is a mess of cracks and raised bumps with grass and plants growing out of them. Impossible to spot the sources. This happened near the end of last year when we had a cold snap. The old boy who cleans our chimney had a look (ex roofer.) He suggested the same as you - tarp held down with sand bags until the good weather arrives. I must have about 60kg of sand in smallish bags holding down the tarp all around the edge and across the middle. It hasn't moved or leaked once in all the rain and wind we've had.

are we talking about dormer roof ?

and by the read of that you want it all done you wont trace the leak and depends on how long its been on the roof dormer

That's the stuff. But the first link shows 'out of stock' with no similar alternatives. Nothing on ebay either.
The second link is a maybe if nothing else turns up, it's a 2 hr round trip from here. That one needs a trade account and is marked 'clearance' as well, which is what made me wonder if it's gone the same way as 'proper' creosote and other stuff us ordinary folk used to be trusted with...

Have you got a tarmac plant near by , We used to buy ours from there , used it to seal the joints .

A bit bigger than I wanted. The torch-on felt is looking like a better idea.

The job is to help the neighbour patch his OSB shed roof, which is currently lying in my garden with a 4" hole in it where it hit a fence post when it got blown off in the storm.

If you just need to patch a small hole, I could send you a 1Kg lump of keg bitumen ( which you could melt in an old saucepan ), or a 1 sq ft piece of torch-on felt.

The old saucepan on a camping stove is exactly how I was planning to do it
