as said a good quality tap and die set would set you back hundreds if not thousands.
ive been collecting taps and dies here for years, the latter being much harder to come by but the taps arent dear to buy so 60% of my taps have come from e bay but id be buying good quality branded taps and dies, ive been gathering them up for the best end of 10 years and with a fairly substantial collection now there are still times id get caught out for the size i dont have.
i know it id be nice to get a one trick pony when it comes to taps and dies but if you had time to shop a bit then you would eventually gather up a decent selection altho i think ill be gathering them up for the rest of my life tbh.
metric dies would be my Achilles heel but id be fairy well sorted for most other sizes altho im fairly well filled up on imperial sizes of taps and dies at this stage.
anything thats from the far east id stand well clear of, it ill only annoy you when you use it.
