Well, my pal who had a fall yesterday [you may have seen my post suggesting he buy in a ready-made set of galvanised handrail components] phoned today, having looked at what's available.
Being a) a Yorkshireman
, and b) like many of us here, he derives great pleasure in thinking "I made that"
], has decided to push ahead with the scaffold tubes plan. Apparently he has access to as many as he wants from a close neighbour's widow, whose late husband was..to put it kindly....a hoarder and retired 'Johnny a' things' as we call them up here. i.e. folk who can turn their hand to most things to an acceptable level.
He outlined his 'Baldrick' plan and I have to confess what he proposes should provide an acceptable solution. I've offered to go across and help, but only if I can can stay the night - because of the success of the NC500, the only sensible times to go are very early morning or late evening when all the mobile homers & caravaners are parked up for the night.
But that's for a different thread altogether......

I offered to take the MIG over in the boot to MMA some of it with him, but had forgotten he has 2 basic MMA sets there, so all good in that respect.
He's agreed, but intends to assemble some of the handrail in his garage, so it's likely it'll be finished ahead of my arrival.
This is where the professionals among you come in. I told him that most of you lads now seem to use resin to bond stuff like railings etc, in preference to [say] lead or products like Postcrete, - in that it sets quickly & rock hard? Just what a pair of amateurs will need.
Can anyone recommend what you consider to be the 'best' [OK, that's a subjective thing
] and kindly supply a link? Cost will not be an issue, nor will storage for possible future use.

. He intends to mount the uprights [2 will suffice] on a base plate each, then bolt it down from there. Rawlbolts should suit in that case.

His will be spaced appropriately - he only needs one @ top, and one @bottom. His big problem I think is he insists on carrying the 2-handled strimmer down ahead of himself, trips over it I suspect and down he goes. He admits he's "a silly old bast*ard"...
. He admitted he was in so much pain on Sat night that he had to phone NHS111. He only has the one kidney and feared he might have damaged it in the tumble. They advised him, having accessed all his medical records, on what pain killers to safely take + go to Doc this morning for a thorough check-up.
There was a bit of silence when I pointed out how many hours of an odd-job man's grass cutting [we're not talking Wentworth or Wimbledon standard of finish here] he could have had for what he paid for the machine. Not to mention faffing about with, and storing, petrol.......
. If/when we make a start I'll report in a fresh thread in the appropriate forum section.
