hi peeps just got my new welder and looking for gas, booked a bottle of 20L mig gas from a local SWG stockist, i just cant figure out how most of you would compare them with BOC offer, £60 deposit is fully refundable and we get £20 cashback for first bottle if the deal is still on, BOC offer that lot of people has taken u pay rent and cheaper gas but get nothing back when u done welding one day, hows it compared?? help please

I don't weld as much as I'd like to, still it's only £34 + vat a year worth it to have it to hand IMHO
It all depends on how much gas you use and convenience for collection etc. Using the numbers for pure argon (as Ar/CO2 is just stated as being cheaper than pure Ar) in this thread http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=40809.
Ignoring fill pressures as there's not much in it (a few hundred litres more with BOCs 230 bar fill) 1 or 2 cylinders a year and SWG are cheaper. 3 cylinders from BOC in a year = £179 inc VAT (gas + energy surcharge + rental) while 3 from SWG = £198 however...
SWG prices are set by the dealers with some following the SWG suggested prices, others charging more and maybe some charging less so it depends on where you live... going back a couple of years so may no longer apply but my local SWG agent don't actually stock any gases, most of the staff were unaware they were even a dealer that's listed on the SWG website
and they wanted about £80 for a 20L pure Ar. If the welder gets dragged out once a month for a little job then the hassle and wait involved in getting gas would be worth the savings, use it everyday and not worth the grief even if it was cheaper

SWG local distributor quoted £70 + VAT per refill on a 10l bottle plus they needed to order them in. BOC with the offer works out by far the best value and I can pick them up from the local distributor
If I stop welding much it would be cheaper to go to the hobby gas, but I want to get a lot of practice done.
