Sweating steel?

Talking to someone today and they were on about bad quality sheet steel that sweats when it is welded.

Does anyone know what he was on about because i have welded some right old crap and never seen (or looked for) any sweat?

Sometimes if you cut a bit of damp steel with a burning lamp, it seems to get "wetter" if you try to dry it out a bit with the flame. Could be something along those lines ?

It could be leaded steel with a high lead and sulphur content.

^now that would be some naaasty sh@. It's bad enough with welding fumes then add lead and sulphur to the mix :-o

On proceeses such as oxy/propane burning or certain welding processes when Hydrogen is emitted from the flame or arc this can combine with Oxygen in the air and produce water. Generally this takes place well clear of the arc or cut.

i wish i could sweat some it would be cheaper then buying it
