swarfega v's youngens

1st off-
Im not having a pop at all you youngens so dont gang up on me

Ive had the sisters lad(age 17) with me now for the past five days.
Now then where do i start with him lol.
Oh yes thats my gripe of the day for him SWARFEGA!
A large tub that normally lasts me at least five months has just about been used up in FIVE days.
So my gripe is thus-
WHY DO YOUNGENS THINK MORE IS BETTER WITH SWARFEGA?
Ive told him you only need the smallest of dabs and work it in before rinsing and if you still need it( i never seem to do)repeat.
Talk about re-inventing the wheel!
I have shown him now how much i use but he then called me a tight ar$e tw@
and told me not to tell him how to 'wash his own hands'
To tell you the truth i actually think the less you use is better.
For instance i can get just about total black oily hands clean with just a smidgen of the green stuff.
Help me out here
am i just been a tight old Bugga or like me do you try and use 'just whats required'?

Tell him to buy his own and that will steady him, if that's a bit much, give him his own pot and say when its gone its gone. His dirty hands will be enough motivation to stop using it like a new toy

Get rid of him.

I've been there; trying to mother inexperienced lads who show lots of promise; taking time to show them things. Waste of time. In my experience its like talking to a brick wall, plus the added bonus of having to watch their every move they make to avoid them maiming themselves.
Obviously there are exceptions to this, theres some decent younguns who are willing to learn. I've never found one yet though.

I only dip two fingers in the swarfega tub and it lifts enough to clean anything I have on my hands even when they are really dirty. Tell him it's not like hair gel

They normally take a big handful & then put hands under a fast running tap & wash half of it down the plug hole.

Oh & if he gave me lip like that he would be out on his ear. Family or no family connection.

With you there Jammy James so don't be apologetic.

I share a house with (amongst others) a 22 year old who is very keen and switched on. I remember having the same energy in the distant past. I'll be teaching him to weld soon, and it won't take him long to pick it up as he'll listen and think and even question when necessary. He's also very economical with the hand wash.

Not sure why anyone would use Swarfega. Horrible stuff. Perhaps the young Jedi is trying to get rid of it quickly in the hope you'll buy the orange stuff with polychips.

Firstly, he isn't paying for the Swarfega.

Secondly, he might just like winding you up. When I was that age, I liked to get people worked up so they frothed at the mouth.

Thirdly, people seem far more wasteful these days then they were say, 30 years ago. I've seen what look like new bikes thrown on the dump. All sorts of stuff that works and is serviceable chucked out because it's last year's model.

Fourthly, it takes a certain amount of maturity to realise that there's a right amount to use of washing powder, fertiliser, engine oil, Swarfega or whatever. Too little is no good and too much won't do the job as well. That right amount can be surprisingly little.

Fifthly, some personality types are simply incompatible.

If he calls you a tightass call him an idiot.

I have found that it lasts longer the when there is less of it in the pot, funny that isn't it you seem to economise more with the less you've got. so buy a new tub and just put a handful in the old tub, than hide the new tub under you`r bed with your cash you tight ar$e.

If it was me this is what i would do.


If you are paying him something for working with you, go buy the biggest pot of soap you can, take that out of his money and say.............. now you use all you like............ You are paying! Tell him the choice is his, the easy way or the hard way, it's in his own hands.


No you are not being tight, it's always different if you are the one paying.

Ah teenagers ....... if only they could rule the world

Ask him to buy the next tin .

here is a gentle exercise .. Find some hand blackening stuff .and both of you get diesel ehaust siit black hands .

Stand with him and give him what he wants to clean his hands and you use a teaspoon of it ..before he actually washes his hands get him to scrape the mucky swarfega off on to a bit of plate so he has the same covering as you have .. then wash your hands see who has the cleanest hands .

( Dont forget to use you barrier cream first ....and don't let him have any or know you have used it ...........old age and cunning defeats gobby kids every time )

Get a pump on the Swarfega can and get hold of some borax powder for rubbing in with the Swarfega and for the washing off with soap as the combo is about the best cleaner I have ever come across .

Finally tell him that there are long term ongoing studies with hand cleaners that are indicating that too much on the skin over your teenage years will reduce your sperm count , corrupt your DNA and tend to make you effeminate as a result.

See if you can locate the hospital hand wshing regime pictures and ask him if he actually knows that this is how you should clean your hands ..

Failing all this .... kick him in the fork to give him a couple of acres and tell him to start farming instead.

Years back i worked in a factory putting rubber on rollers as a foreman in the wrapping room,one of my jobs was to fill the dispensers.When they where full they would go down real quick (by dinner time)if i left them 1/4 full they would last 1-2 days.They see a load they use a load they see a bit they use a bit.
A bit like my wallet nowadays!

Failing that make him pay for a tub himself.
