Suzuki Swift

Last night I was waiting at traffic lights behind a Suzuki Swift. It looked like it was either rear wheel drive or 4x4. When it pulled away both me and the other half noticed two little con rods wizzing up and down next to the diff housing. Looked like they were linked to the drive shafts somehow. Any ideas what they are???

I’ve tried google but can’t find anything. I’m starting to think it was just the flanges on the end of the driveshafts and the shadows cast by my headlights but it certainly looked odd at the time.
