Suzuki jimny welding

Hi all,

I've been asked to weld a suzuki Jimny. I don't know much about them.

Has anyone here had any experience with one?

Parts that require welding below.

Suspension mounts
seat belt ancorage points
Bit on the chassis

A mate had one and it rusted for fun, be no different to any old Japanese car, or any old car for that matter
Suzuki do seem good at supplying parts for the older models though

All I know is from offroading L200s where people would turn up in Jimnys and make the rest of us look even more stupid than we already were.

Seem like almost indestructible, easy to repair, go-anywhere machines!

done one with same sort of places as you,simple really same with any old motors,if its rot,then its not,cut out and slap something back in

The steel will be very thin...thinner than on a Toyota...similar to Honda or Nissan I would think.

On the nissan I repaired the "thick stuff" was around 1.2mm...the thin stuff was around 0.7mm-0.8mm. butt welding that was interesting!

I used to go and watch 4x4 off road trials and these were really tough courses that put any 4x4 to the test.

The suzuki generally wiped the floor with everything else, whether a SJ or a Jimny. Then a guy built a well sorted Vitara and he won everything. It was in the road going class and he was beating most of the specials too!

The guys told me that the only time the Suzukis got beaten was when it got really really muddy and the landys superior traction came through.

I was very tempted to start competing but all the events were 100 plus miles away and I would need a 4x4 to tow my competition vehicle to the event.

I used to see the same with Suzukis, although the Haflingers could give them some competition. The organisers had to accomodate all makes while still making it competitive so it was funny when one gate ended up too narrow for a Jeep grand wagoneer

Ground clearance is what stops them. Light weight is also an advantage. Never got SWMBOs stuck. Even in snow

No good on the Motorway though. Fuel consumption not great either. Bit cramped for the fatter person

Metal is thin, and some is hard to get at.
