Sureweld Monomig 101 - problem ?

Hi All

Picked one of these up at the weekend for (very) cheap. Thought it might be handy to keep at home for the odd job, since the Sealey 180 I normally get to use is at my brothers place.

Gas is coming through and teh wire feed seems smooth and it strikes an arc BUT it seems to me like the current supply is not consistent as I can't really create a weld pool or a bead on a piece of scrap - kind of pops intermittently rather than crackling. Not the end of the world if I can't get it to work but if there are some obvious things to check I have my DMM at the ready..

Ground clamp and it's lead would be the 1st. Then generally check and reseat the connections inside the machine inc on the diode plate and any other nut and bolt type connections. Make sure you only remove and clean one at at time as you would not want to get connections mixed up!!
AND REMEMBER TO UN PLUG FROM MAINS BEFORE YOU START !!!!!!

Yes the ground clamp does need renewing (cheap and twisted). I did try direct onto the clamp knowing it would be replaced soon, but still not good although that could be due to the plating on it I guess.. Will take teh covers off and have a good root around this evening hopefully - Unplugged !

PS Sureweld sent me a kind of manual that was quite useless apart from indicating the machine is likely a badged Telwin..
