I usually go out of my way to design things that don't need supports (e.g. making multiple bits that clip together somehow rather than one monolithic thing with overhangs).
However, the part my printer is making at the moment seemed like it would be too complicated to make in multiple pieces so I turned supports on and I'm crossing my fingers it'll come out okay (only a 2 hour print, so not the end of the world if it all goes wrong).
How often do other people use supports? (I'm not counting the lucky few with multi-material printers that can do soluble supports or whatever!) Do you go out of your way to avoid them or have you found some tricks to make them easier to remove?
