Last nights little job. Profiled plates, 150mm box section columns, 200x200x20 angle
Support for a cantilevered floor. Finish it starting at 5.00am tomorrow, at the galvanisers for 7, fit yesterday!
Design for the slots is rubbish. The welds to the stiffeners clash with them.

Nice looking work Paul, shame their design on the slots doesn't look right.

Your hoist must be handy for that sort of stuff. Wouldn't like to lift that onto a bench.

200x200x20 I have used some 100x100x10 angle and I thought that was bloody heavy it looks like two inch angle in the picture
do you have to drill the box for galvanising or do you drill through the end plate

I get the baseplates supplied with a big hole through the centre, and the cap plates have two holes punched through them. Easier than messing about drilling the box section!

That angle is horrible stuff, especially when you have a number of lengths stacked together
Still, dont get many of them to a 5 ton bundle

I have a stupid question, the work clamp on the bench, is that just it's home or would the bench clamped be usable as a whole work piece return? I'm thinking not as there would be no guarantee of good return, but I am thinking out loud (and a bit out the box too).

I have a stupid question, the work clamp on the bench, is that just it's home or would the bench clamped be usable as a whole work piece return? I'm thinking not as there would be no guarantee of good return, but I am thinking out loud (and a bit out the box too).

Just having the earth clamped to the bench means i can turn the pieces and don't keep forget to put it back on - works fine, theres plenty of contact area between the bench and the piece to be welded. Thats the 500a set i'm using, the smaller 250amp set normally lives under the bench and is clamped on somewhere, never a problem.


Why can't you weld on the moon.......there's no earth
