I am working a deal on a gently used Millermatic 251. My garage has 220v 30 amp service dedicated. I plan on using this machine for what I call minor welding. I am welding a motorcycle frame mostly .125 wall DOM, single pass, well below its duty cycle. Question is will the supply voltage and current allow me to do this with relative safety?

find out what the input amperage is on the welder it will be on a plate on the machine that will answer your question

If its a single phase machine, then not likely to be drawing over 30 amps, so it will work fine on relatively thin wall tubing.

yes it will work fine on the lower amps
but it wont weld at max on a 30 amp fuse [not for long anyhow]42 amp @230v and if it is an mcb it would need to be a c type

the question is from the states so the calculations need to be at 220V and i don't think they use MCB's as we know them. if its an old machine the current draw could be signification. if you can post a picture of the data plate we can make seance of it

US is called 220 but it is nominally 240.

I think the specs are misleading, shows both 200 and 250Afor duty cycle. The duty cycle chart goes up to 300A. That would be the 42A/220V rating.

30A should be good to at least 180A. 1/8 tubing you'll be at about 125 amps.

We don't use MCB's much for 220V circuits. Here they are called GFCI breakers. You may find it will want a breaker designed for inductive loads. I found my big machines will trip the breaker about every 12th time the trigger is pulled.
