When I was first married, someone gave me a CX500C Custom, smaller tank and rear tyre. I used it to go to work (80 mile round trip) for about two years till it overheated and exploded one day!

I do remember it only did about 40mpg but only held just over two gallons of fuel. I had to fill it up daily to go to work! Tank range was about 90 miles inc reserve!

Plus side I did 40.000 miles on it! Apart from tyres and front pads and servicing the only other thing I recall was having to weld-fabricate up the collector box of the exhaust.

I replaced it in 1989 with a 1987 two year old GPZ500R (which held about 3.5 gallons and did about 65mpg giving a tank range of about 235 miles).

I am sure they did a turbo maggot CX650, bet that was thirsty!

I have only ever owned motorbikes for city commuting! Honda 250RS, loads of 250 twin superdream and one 400 superdream! One BMW R80RT without the fairing, the CX500C and the GPZ500R and one 1883 GT550 shaftdrive.

Out of all of them the GPZ500 was the best bike for the job! Good on fuel, reliable, narrow enough to squeeze thru gaps and fast enough to beat cars away from traffic lights.

A friend had a CX after his 250SuperDream, but due to the wonders of the internet, some loon raced the Turbot

never really got my head round those turbo bikes, think Yam and Kwak did one-not sure if Suzuki did.I preferred putting in hotter cams and stuff. I had a browse to see if any of the outfits I remember from those days are still about,

Think I feel a dose of project fever coming on, one or two of you lot must have an engine, frame etc lying around you can donate to an owd soldier pensioner.

BTW the Norley frame is Bronze Welded and I recall another thread where there was some ace bronze welding.Said to be a dying craft, but I think when I saw that it was referring to bronze welding T45 tube specially but I dunno.
