Super Newbie needs help

Hi

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I just upgraded from my supplied sealey regulator to one with gauges so I can get the correct l/min but I cannot get the gas to flow, I bought a c02/argon regulator.

The black dial when turned completely counter clockwise allows gas to flow into regulator but not come out of the black pipe down to my welder, if I turn it clockwise it releases gas out of the right hand side connection (none of the fittings for the gas pipe to my welder will fit this)

Am I missing something, can this only be used with a flow meter?

The gas outlet is the fitting on the right hand side. Looks like you have removed a pressure relief valve or burst disc cap and screwed a fitting in place of it! What did you remove from the left hand side and add? You don't need PTFE tape on the bottle threads, the tapered end does the sealing in the bottle valve when tightened.

Well I couldn't,t get it to fit on left hand side so took it to the place where I got my gas from and the bloke took it out, he said it was an adaptor or something, not sure he knew what he was talking about now tbh

Well, that looks like a pressure relief valve so needs to be re-fitted correctly a.s.a.p!! It looks like it's from the low pressure side and probably connected to the same chamber as the outlet connector on the right of the regulator which, as Wallace mentioned is the outlet you should be using. You will need to get the correct adaptors to attach your hose, which looks like 6mm compressed gas line which normally goes into a push-fit fitting.

You'll need this kind of thing, with the push-in adapter to suit your hose:

You are right he didn't know what he was talking about, that looks like a pressure relief safety valve. Keep the regulator off the cylinder until it has been repaired and tested for your own safety. Is the brass piece threaded?

Right I managed to refit it. This is exactly how the regulator came to me

No it's too small see, I'm sure I must need an adaptor? It's been annoying me for days, all I want to do is practice welding lol

Tried a few other variations and none fit. The bottom pic is what I have if I take them all apart, nothing fits?

The part that is in the black pipe is a push fit nozzle, it's not threaded

Bloke in the gas place wants his a55 kicking !
If the thread in the reg is the same as the one that connects to the fitting you have on the black pipe then you just need a double ended fitting with that thread on. See pic of what I mean.
Gave up trying to figure how to add pic on this new software!
So Pic would have shown arrow pointing to the thread IN reg and the LARGER thread on the fitting held between your finger tips in last pic.

Nope the size of the connector is

I have some 3/8" fittings, if you were closer we could have put something together to fit. If the nylon tube is 6mm bore the outside is likely to be 8mm bore so the brass fitting TIG Paul posted a link to in 8mm will do the job with a short length of rubber hose between the fitting and nylon hose. Welcome to the forum by the way!
