Can anyone recomend a local (to you) manufacturer of Summer Houses/Garden Rooms?

We was originally looking at buying the little un a Play House, but a half decent one, is going to cost around £300. Bearing in mind, that it will/can only ever be used as Playhouse and would be outgrown in a couple of years, we had the idea that if we added another couple hundred, we could buy a SummerHouse that would be used initially as a PlayHouse for the kids, but then can be used as a Shed or whatever by me in a couple of years time once they are bored of it. With this in mind, I don't want to spend loads on it. £500 max. Looking for 8 x 8, 10 x 8 or 10 x 6 sort of size. Basically in this price range, they are a glorified shed, with fancier doors on

I have seen a lot of manufacturers/importers off EBAY and I know I can get what I am after for that price, just wondered if there was any smaller English based firms that its worth me calling before I take the plunge.

Just had a quick look on the website. No prices on there, but I would hazard a guess that they will be much better quality than anything I have priced up and threrfore out of my budget.

They look like its all individually handmade by proper joiners.

I don't know how much you know about Summer Houses, I knew next to f all up until this week, but after a few hours looking at various websites, I get the impression that they range in price from the very low end £350ish up to about £1500, which are basically the same material as sheds are made from and I imagine mass produced, then you have the premium handmade stuff which can go upwards of £30,000!

You've pretty much summed up what I know too !! Currently I'm in the middle of rebuilding an octagonal summer house in my mothers garden. They bought it about 20 odd years ago for about £2500 installed and IMHO they were royally ripped off !! The reason I'm rebuilding it is because the based collapsed, no wonder with the way it was laid ! 6" of loose gravel, with slabs laid on pads of mortar was a plan destined to fail !
Even the structure and materials of the summer house itself are nothing special.
Anyway, the new base would take a house and I'm going to fabricate a much stronger roof, the original was just straw thatch on hardboard !! It will be cedar shingles on marine ply covered with a waterproof membrane.
You'll struggle to find something good at your budget due to the price of timber. I was staggered when I priced up the timber for the roof on this project !
Anyway, I would phone Hillend Sawmills and ask them what they can do for your budget, business is tight for everyone so you never know !

Yeah I will give them a call, you never know.

I am not expecting anything that will last for years, with the budget I am working with, but as I said its mainly going to be a PlayHouse and then used for storage after that, not as an actual SummerHouse.

Not had much call to price up wood except for Decking, is it expensive then?

Next door bought a new shed earlier this year, a potting shed with a pent roof which cost him about £1200 and they wanted another £200 to erect it and felt the roof. Me and him did the installation work before it got there, just a few blocks for the floor supports and then we put it up and did the roof when it was delivered and it took us about an hour in all. The shed was from a local firm called Bembridges and was a good price for the actual build.

Www.gardenbuildingsdirect.co.uk might be worth a gander. Warranties are good too.
Company based in sutton on trent. Main site is www.kybotech.co.uk - they have many other retail stores too. We had a wooden swing set and a trampoline a few years back.
