Hey guys, new to the forum and a semi experienced welder. I just picked up a Millermatic 251 I want to use for home, but the rectifier is blow, the screws seemed rather loose, and it a mobile unit, I was kind of hoping that it was a loose terminal that arced. Ive personally used this welder for years at my job before it blew as well, and it couldn't hold a stable voltage, if it was set at 16 volts, when i would start the weld it would physically show on the display it was changing voltage, and you could feel it fluctuate in the weld, Ive read this is a sign of a rectifier failing as well, so it may have been failing for years. But I don't want to put a 300 dollar part in there and blow the new one as well, any advice on what to check before replacing the rectifier? I admit im very novice on the internals and appreciate all the help.
