suds pump bearing replacment?

Ive got one of these -

As i recall, it was taken out of use as the bearing started squeeling.

Ive just plugged it in, and, whilst its not squeeling now, its fairly noisy, for a pump that i would think should be near silent (impeller on shaft)


Has anyone successfully done the bearings on one of these?

ok, so this seems to be the rattling one -

Its at the top of the motor -

Im not experienced with these things - does that look as if its supposed to come off, or is the shaft deformed to keep the bearing in place?

A shielded sealed FAG,NSK type will get you out of trouble, the existing will pull off with a puller.

I can't work out how to get the bottom one out, and that, coupled with the fact that it still seems smooth, is leading me to not doing it...

It's a very quick job to get in there. So much so that it's back together again now just in case the process gets stalled. Less than 5 mins to open it up again when needed.

I've owned it for over 15 years and was out my way by a friend who bought it new, so I know it's not been replaced.

But it's had a hard life with me, hooked up to a CNC machine running for hours on end, sat on a soil floor... I've hand my monies worth out of it.

I got to the point today where I figured I should either make an effort to repair it or scrap it.

Just seems strange that the other bearing has rubber seals and the outer race looks to have a film of rust on it. Are they both the same bearing size?

Lower bearing will be sealed to act as seal for the coolant side, whereas the top bearing is in the dry side of the casing so no real benefit to it being sealed.

Yes 2Z is the shield, 2RS would be 2 rubber seals.

Stick it in the over at 125 and itll slip on no problem

I'm just surprised if the bearings are both the same size they didn't just use 2RS for both of them. Less logistics / production storage problems using the same item and I would have expected the buyer to be able to negotiate the same price for the single item (maybe even lower depending on quantity bought at a time.

I'm assuming it will have 608 stamped on it and be the right size, but who knows!

Yep 608Z. I had those in the rear triangle pivots on one of my MTB's.

Maybe the 2RS would be better in this application (if available in 2RS, not sure the 608 is).
Popping a seal out & filling with marine grease might help it survive?
