My pesky 13 year old has suddenly got interested in minisubs especially the deep sea jobbies. I also have a fascination with this technology.
Can anybody reccomend a book about them and their pilots.
he is after pictures, I am after a big fat book to read a few times over. I already have The Submarine by Thomas Parrish, a very american biased book mainly about submarines in wartime.

a friend of mine works as a tech on mini subs...He maintains the electronics on the sub and mothership......he is currently in the gulf but will be back in a few weeks.
I will email him and ask him if he has any pics/leaflets for your lad and yourself.

Semi sumersible really, belonged to a guy called Doug Price who built it himself (out of some old steel sewer pipe according to my dad...) and occasionally set off for America in it...

Hey Chunko, I'll mail you some links tomorrow, not sure about books, but I'd reckon Amazon would be a good datum point? I'll also speak to a mate of mine who has a friend based at I think Faslane, these guys mobilise DSRV and ROV in the event of a situation, same guys that rescued Russian crew fairly recently, not the Kurst, the one after, which got snagged on I think a subsea power cable?

In the meantime have the laddie start at the beginning with steam powered K Class subs, not far from here near Isle of May occurred WW1 K class tragedy (see link) link also contains lots of stuff on more modern subs.
