Today i was making a small crankshaft table lamp, crank in the lathe and bored a 10mm hole right through the centre without much bother...needed to put a hole through the bottom, 90 degree to the centre line to exit the cable. Hardened surface and no drill would touch it as expected...Found a new 8mm masonry bit and it chewed through like butter at high speed with no coolant or lube needed, job done. The same principle as those "wonder drills" on the shopping channels, just 2 sharp bits of carbide and plenty of spindle speed....

bosch multidrill proper carbide cutting edge on them not just impact . i sharpen all my long carbide drills with a green stone with a proper cutting edge on them so they drill through brick concrete wood and steel

I remember seeing a guy demonstrating drills at big shows….glass, stone, steel, wonder drill, a set your for x pounds today blah blah…..the old man bought a set. Utter dross. Nothing quite as good as a masonary bit when your stuck! Though I usually cool/ lubricate.

Frhei I think they were. I bought a set at The Ideal Hone Exhibition around 1992.
