Studdable tyres?

lThe other year my car was in the garage and the missus needed the other to get the kids to school so I legged it down into the valley to catch the bus. As I stepped off my drive onto the steep road, I immediately fell on my harris and slid about 20 foot down the road. Black ice, if I was in the 2 tonne Disco there would have been a smouldering wreck at the bottom, not to mention the state of my bottom

Can't speak for rubber ones, but metal tracks can be interesting on ice. If they can touch the slightest bit of ground, snow etc they're great, but when the whole track is on ice they're hopeless

studed tyers are awsome, a littel 1.1 saxo with 155 tyers put studs in them and it was unstopable throughout week and a half there was enough snow and ice about. getting the studs out dosent really happen may as well buy a cheep set of studable remounlds and just swap wheels when needed.

as for chains, found some to be good, best set i've ever had were old OE pug ones, they took loads of abuse lots of throttel and silly antics and been used at twice there maximum speed rateing. the cheep quick fit ones off ebay are just dangorus to you and your car, they just fall apart wrap round the driveshaft rip the cv boost off, rip the brakelines and abs leads and rip the arch liner out, and if they flail the other way takes teh paint off the wing as well

why , o why does everyone bring up Plod or VOSA when things like this are brought up.........VOSA does not make the law, neither does plod, they can only act on what is actually written down, and they cant use there own interpretation of whats written down, if you know you are right, you tell them to go and fu*k themselves, to many folk are being conned by these services nowadays

Is correct.

Also, studded tyres are legal. Although, I've probably done more damage to the road surfaces around here with standard tyres, due to the time of year our local council insist on "surface dressing" the roads.

In some parts of Southern France on-street parking on one-way streets is controlled by date. For half the month you park on one side and at 8:00 am on the relevant date you have to move your car to the other side of the road. This is because a lot of drivers leave their tyre chains/studs in place when not absolutely necessary thus causing excessive wear of the road surface. By alternating parking sides it evens out the wear across most of the width of the road.
