Stub axle repair.

Does anybody know if Knott offer a repair service?
I can ring them tomorrow but the woman wants to know right now
Or any other places that can repair/replace a knott axle?

Basically the wheel bearing has given up and bent the stub.
Stub is welded in.

They are Knott expensive

Recently replaced one on the chipper which came complete with drums, new studs brakes, cables etc and that was less that £400 inc the vat.

This one is Knott easily available and Knott cheap.
It's made by knott, fitted to a horse box.

I spoke to knott friday, serial number on the axle comes up as the horsebkx part number so they want me to order from them. They want £1200!

This one is slightly unusual as it has extra plates tying into the a-frame.
I could replace with a normal knott part and weld the extra brackets back on but I don't want to melt the rubber suspension bushes.

I don't know how to get the end out/back in again to avoid damaging the rubbers.

I might think about bolting new brackets in place or looking at some way of cooling the rubbers when welding.

I did a boat trailer a couple of years ago , and got ywo axles complete for less than the price of two hub and brake kits , they make all sorts of oem replacement axles , took a bit of hunting some thing like Pennine Axles
If your stuck I can ask the guy who paid for them tomorrow , they put on custom sized brackets for fitting to for about thirty quid extra.

No.
But, this axel has 2 extra brackets that the A frame is tied into!

Like for like replacement would be ideal as its just a bolt on job.
It only took 30mins to get this one out

You can’t. I first came across this system on a log chipper years ago and it seemed that the axle was crimped round the rubber torsion bits. It wasn’t a knott but same principle. As it was single axle un braked height wasn’t a huge issue so I made a new axle from box with independent units on the ends.

be tempted to make a new set of btackets and bolt on the indy suspension type stubs , but it would change the over all height etc , and in this day and age , if there was ever an accident , not so good.
The guys I found actually make axles for indisuspension and a few others , I can ring the guy tomorrow and get the details , uk based and easy to deal with , no harm in asking I looked through my mail box but didnt see details

Box it up after attempting to straighten with tube and big hammer. Sell trailer to a stranger.

Buy new trailer, and look after it.

The mods should put the brakes on this thread and independently suspended it as it has no bearing on the original post.

There is a guy on the bay of thieves advertising a huge pile of trailer axle beams, he may well have something to suit.

This is a twin axel so they need to match.
It's a job so I can't bodge as if it was my own

I can get the replacement but they are saying 8 weeks from date of order and haven't even sent me the order form yet as they are in lockdown.

At that point , just pass on the information and screw on a new part .. Ill send you the axle guys info when I get it , may come in for future use.
