Struggling for consistency

I seemed to have reached a point where im not really improving.

Im finding it difficult to get consistency along each weld and then getting 2 welds the same.

Wondering if i need someone watch what im doing and tell me what im doing.

Did some today on 4mm plate, each weld 6"long, 120A, 2.4mm tungsten, 1.6mm filler

(GYS 207 so ive got no excuses)

I'd go up on filler size as well it looks like you are rushing to keep up with the puddle in places.

Filler size and tungsten is fine for 4mm plate, you should really move on to making some joints now, there is only so much that running beads on plate will teach you, try setting up an outside corner, then a tee fillet, amps will need to go down a bit for the open corner, and up a bit for the fillet, consistency of bead will come with practice, working on a real joint will give you a path to follow and a proper weld pool to control, when you've cracked that then go back to a butt joint,

Thanks, so i tried a tee joint today, Amps up a bit but everything else the same. Not perfect by any means, and a tad undercut, but more consistent it think?

A very decent attempt. Try some thinner plate. A section that thick is more suited to other processes.

Ok something thinner. A scrap piece of 1.2mm, about 6" long.

And then 2 stanley blades together, slightly overlapped on the chamfered thin (sharp) side. Struugled to get the arc focused but kept sharpening the tungsten (1.6mm) then used some scotch on it, and suprisingly enough, it worked.

Tried a piece of stainless steel flue, it measured less than 1mm thick. I had ordered some 1mm 316 rods, but realised i was sent sifredicote, whatever that is?? Anyway I used them. Set at 18A. (edit...Apparantly where i got the rods from split the packs down and into different tubes so the label on the tube isnt necessarily correct - but the rods look very tarnished and also have a very bumpy feel to them - is that normal for new stainless rods to look that dirty??)
