Have been told that its not good practice to simply plug weld old drilled out spots welds on a structural part of a van. Would doubling up on plug welds into new metal be safer? - twice as many as factory spot welds, or could I get away with a few less? Holes (Factory spot welds are set an inch and a quarter apart)
I'm talking about a Transit chassis cab, the 2mm chassis of which I have totally disassembled. I'm now joining the top hat chassis part back together with bottom hat of the chassis.
I have another identical grey import chassis cab and the factory welder obviously wasn't turned up enough in production as the welds have split apart. It only has one spot decent weld every 6-8 inches, with one section 14 inches apart..it still tips fine etc. without the two parts splaying apart.
