Over the last few weeks i have seen several threads referencing lathes with missing gap pieces & you can probably explain most of these through absent mindedness or ignorance on the part of people clearing workshops.
But lately i have seen a number of adverts advertising Lathes & stating accessories to be sold separately. A Harrison L5 on fb marketplace for instance, looks to be in good clean condition & up for about £1350, has what is obviously all its original equipment yet states Bare machine only all accesories sold separately!
I know this has always gone on with dealers but to me it just smacks of blatant profiteering & personally if i went to look at a machine & the seller said that i would walk away.
In the past i have sold a few machines & always found that selling them fully tooled up they went for top dollar.
In my shed sits my Harrison 140 fully tooled with 3 & 4 jaw chucks, faceplates, milling table, steadies choice of toolposts, collets sets, changewheels, right down to the manual & original factory test chart, I doubt i will every use half of it but its there if & when i need it!
Some years back i sold a Bantam 800 to a guy from Farnborough he had been searching for a machine with tooling for two years without success, the minute he walked in the door & saw it he just said "I'll have it" didnt even make an offer.
To me it kind of seems wrong to strip it & sell it all off separately.
Am i becoming a soft old ****e in my old age?
