Take it off and to a bead blaster and get it done, save yourself some work and probably money as well £20 in the hand should see it back to bare metal and a wipe over ready to prime and fill.

bead blasting does not remove paint it peenes metal as there glass balls

Well I got three quotes to spray base coat and clear on the prepped bonnet, one in Edinburgh for £100 from a guy who I have got to know as he has been restoring a friends Mk4 camper van, a guy in Glenrothes recommended by my paint supplier for £150 who was not very keen to do the job as I am doing the prep, he came round when I showed him my work on the XK8. Finally a very local place in Dunfermline with a good reputation, £200, so I'll go for the Edinburgh guy.

I prepped and painted the inside of the bonnet last week.

Hmm, do you think I will be able to get away with this by sanding locally or will it show up after paint?

I don't want to break out the 2k high build again if I don't have to.

My very limited experience in the past has always been that the surface felt good under the hand when all filing etc had been done, but as soon as paint hit it, it was like a relief map of the Himalayas.

Will you forgive yourself if it sticks out like a sore thumb?

I hit the corner with three coats of high build and then gave the entire bonnet a once over. I can still see the low point but I hope there will be enough on there now to get it flat without a cut through.

Just got it back from the painters, £150 for them to base and clear using my base coat and their clear. Reasonably happy although I can see one silicone dimple.

Before the paint is properly cured, you can put a drop into the fisheyes to fill them and then burnish afterwards. Once cured you will just have to live with it or refinish it.

The car passed its MOT on Friday with no advisories, so a big thanks to all on here who have helped me. I was a total novice when I started out on this but feel fairly capable now.

The car cost £4500 on ebay and I think I spent about 4k on parts over the years and about 1500 hours, plus a lot on new tools.
