Stove pipe cover plate template

Does anyone know where I can find a programme for an elliptical cover plate template? My son in law (100 miles away) has had a new wood burning stove fitted and needs a cover plate to hide the gap between the flue pipe and ceiling.The ceiling is pitched following the roof line, Is there such a programme that if I give it the ceiling angle and flue diameter it will give me a template for cutting out the ellipse?

Thanks rtb, I have looked but can't seem to find what i am after.Plenty of tube mitring progs, could not find anything for a pipe going thro' a flat plate at an angle.

Yes I could do that, It hinges on his template making skills. I thought there might be something like the pipe mitre programmes, just feed in the flue O/D and ceiling angle, Fingers crossed somebody can point me in the right direction.

As well as the flue diameter and the ceiling angle, you'll also need to know the plate thickness, if you're looking for a really good fit with a perpendicular cut.

If you've got the dimensions, I could draw it for you, if you like.

P.S just been in touch with him and he will get back to me as soon as possible. I'm thinking 1/16" i.e. 1.6mm will be quite adequate for this job,

At that thickness, I doubt it'll have much effect, but I can account for it anyway.

If you have the angle, then that gives you the long axis of the elipse. The rest is simple drawing or any other practical string and nail method.

I'm quite familiar with the nail and string method, Am I correct in thinking that it is then just a matter of adjusting the string and nails to fit the long and short axis by trial and error?
