Stove flue question

Hope this is in the right section...am after a technique I suppose..

Planning ahead, the stove flue will go vertical, then 45 degrees through the wall, returning to vertical with a rain cap on it I shuld think.

What is used to seal the flue where it passes through the wall, especially when the stove is not lit and rain water is running down the pipe and trying to track into the workshop.

I have thought of whatever has replaced asbestos rope, mainly because of the expansion and contraction.

I am sure there is something but I have never had anything to do with stoves and flues etc.

it will probably be a Clarke pot belly with 117mm flue

It can't go through the roof by the way.

Put a flat collar like the brim of a hat round the pipe where the 45° ends outside and the water will run off that. Is your workshop brick or block? Seal the hole in the wall with intumescent mastic.

With Pedro on this one. Law of gravity being what it is, water will flow down rather than sideways, unless the pipe is on an wall exposed to side winds. If it is, a collar on the pipe on the outside wall (you should have one anyway) will do. If you have a problem with water seeping into the wall, then the pipe is at an angle greater than 45 degrees.

Luckily the wall is on the weather protected side 90% of the time..so Pedro's suggestions sounds just the business.... just got to find a supplier of flue pipe now.. Machine mart seems a bit expensive...will cost as much as the stove does...unless thats the norm
