Quite windy yesterday here, like 60mph winds. Because it’s dry as well the dust clouds were horrendous so even going outside meant eyes full of dust. It destroyed the welded steel lid to the pool kit locker, a 5 foot by 2 foot thing. The panel has come away from the frame and the frame was ripped off its hinges.
But through the night, wow, just wow. I’ve seen storms in the UK but somehow this was different. We are at 870m above sea level, so up in the mountains a bit. Things banging all night, wind whistling through the windows. No double glazing here as it’s not needed, just shutters to keep the house cool. This morning it’s still blowing a hooley and everything inside is covered with dust, even the shower. Outside there is tumbleweed everywhere and it looks like a scene from a disaster movie. No structural damage to the house thankfully.
I can’t figure out how to upload videos but if I can I took a couple which I will share. It’s quite different to what we’re used to. And in the UK the warnings would have been red, danger, don’t go out, etc. Here…..”Naranja” (orange) warning about possible high winds
Yet it was 22 degrees all through here but further south quite a bit colder.
EDIT. Videos here.

Storm Herminia: a town in Almería records the strongest gust of wind in Andalusia
Storm Herminia has caused strong westerly winds throughout Monday in the province of Almería, causing at least thirty incidents in several municipalities, according to sources from Emergencies 112.
Official information from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reveals that a municipality in Almería recorded the strongest gust of wind in all of Andalusia, exceeding 100 km/h. It was Albox, where the westerly wind reached 113 km/h at 3:20 p.m. Not only was it the strongest gust in Andalusia, but the tenth at national level.
In Camarate (Sierra Nevada, Granada) the second strongest gust of the day in Andalusia was recorded, with 105 km/h, and in Carboneras the third strongest was measured, with 98 km/h.
If we also take into account the data from amateur stations published by the Association of Meteorology of the Southeast (Ametse), in Almería there have been even higher gusts, even exceeding 150 km/h. According to these records, the strongest gusts of wind on Monday have been:
153.4 km/h in Paraje El Águila (El Ejido)
121 km/h in Cañada de Cañepla (María)
118.1 km/h in La Romanilla (Roquetas de Mar)
110.9 km/h in Calar Alto (Gérgal)
The highest temperatures in Andalusia
On the other hand, in the province of Almería the highest temperatures in all of Andalusia were also recorded on Monday according to Aemet data. The thermometer reached 25.4 °C in Huércal-Overa at 13:30, just above the 25.2 °C in Garrucha (at 16:20) and the 23.7 °C in Albox (at 13:10). These were the three Andalusian municipalities with the highest temperatures.
On the other hand, Almería also had the lowest temperatures. During the early hours of Monday, 6.4 °C was recorded in Laujar de Andarax, the fourth lowest temperature in the region - the lowest was -2.4 °C in Pradollano, Granada.
