Bottle, thats what you need!! the starting is a really 'violent' action so you have to deal firmly. Get ready, in position etc, then squeeze and go for it. Its hard to explain but it comes naturally with practice, just getting used to the helmet getting dark, a weird bright light in it, awful noise, sparks every where and the sure knowledge that your setting fire to metal.

But it's true - we're not telepathic. What the original poster wants to know is probably obvious to him but is at best ambiguous and at worst a complete mystery to the rest of us. We need a bit more detail.

Not really, try to remember back to when you first started. I used to close my eyes pretty well every time I squeezed the trigger, the thump of the wire hitting just as it arcs put me off. I used to take about an inch to get into the swing of it.

Now I can be looking at where I will be welding while I hit the trigger. It starts to become intuitive, but its a learnt not taught trait.

Could You give us a bit more info of the problems, more than happy to help, but please try to remember the time zone bit... you asked at just after midnight and at 6 this evening, from 6 till midnight are the busiest times here...

As said more info would help but several methods including backstepping welds (link deals more with the distortion aspect but welding to an existing bead can make for better tie ins than welding from an existing weld). Can strike the arc slightly ahead of your start point and once arc is established back it up to the existing weld before continuing. Feathering stops and tack welds before continuing helps too, also improves appearance (less likely to end up with 'lumps' in the weld)

Sorry, I assumed you'd remembered that Clifford210 has some experience. Last time I remember him posting it was a similar thing - not a lot of detail and then a gee-up for an answer when most people this side of the pond had been in bed since he asked the question, which is why I mentioned it.

I find it easier as I do it so often, but most of the guys here do less a month than I do in a couple of days, and thats less than Tino and the big boys do before dinner...

I get very self conscious about my welding when being watched, but I get some nice feed. May be hes just a touch self concious as well

sorry didn't mean to hassle anybody after 104 people looking at the post i figured some didnt know exactly how to explain they just so i just asked for anybody to give any info they could and i didnt think i needed to explain the original question i guess i did for that i'm sorry i do have experience in not explaining myself thanks for everything

No problems, feel free to ask, if theres a few bits bothering you then split them up. I tend to read this bit as it is always full of good insights. I know what you mean about loads of views and no posts, bit disheartening. My previous post should have also implied that a lot of guys here are a bit self concious to offer advice.
