Not really sure what the question refers to, but from what I've recently been taught, I would stick some acid on the weld and HAZ, leave it for a while and then wash it off and scour them with scotch brite. (or "escos briteh" as they say here )
do you me the brown stuff on the reverse? if so the only way you will get rid of that is by either purging the reverse or clamping it to some brass tightly to stop air getting to the reverse of the weld
