how about we call it rustina after all we did have a ford called a cortina and that ended up like thatIt's not patina it's RUST. If you keep calling it patina then this is what can happen......
And yes it does look like sticky back plastic wood effect on the bonnet and door handles.

******* rust we spend a lot of time and money trying to stop it and some plebs sand a good paint job back to metal and think it is rad dude.. Ok if your vw beetle has been imported from the sunny California that has a natural sun bleached look .

Consider yourself lucky though. I have to see of those abortions daily thanks to the eldest lad, and his mother has lapsed back into usual form and encourages/helps him to keep tw*tting it up further now.

The amount of car shows over the last few years I have been to mainly vw shows the rat look rust look whatever you ******* call it has got worse. They seem to get more trophies than people that have fully restored there pride and joy

Hooray - somebody else who hate the whole rat look. Thought I was on my own as simply can't see the appeal of something that looks as if on the way to scrap yard.

It's done by people who don't have the skills to do a good job of paint so they do a good job of making it look bad and call it good.
Isn't there a technique called bluing where you make a controlled rust?
yes, but bluing is usually for firearms and actually looks good lol

I know of people with glass cars that have glassed in pieces of rusty steel for effect, bit sad in my opinion.

the only cars that should look like that are the ones on top of a scrap heap
even I'm getting bored with the "rat look" cars and I've been driving one for over 10 years, to me its a bit of fun and but its gets annoying on forums when people "ask how to rat a car", all you need to do is use your imagination and think of something original. my mk2 polo became ratty after I crashed it in 2003, but the car was rebuilt about 4 years ago apart from the bodywork, but thats because I like the paintwork as its cracked all over due to spraying it with cellulose paint years ago but spraying it on too thick and too many coats.
