I gather they got the keys ? some insurance companies now advise not to leave your keys handy for that reason, lots of break in's now just to get the car keys

It's amazing the number of people who throw the keys onto a table next to the front door, Mrs Robo would leave hers on the stairs opposite the front door 'til I educated her.

yea I knew someone that ran in, in a hurry to use his loo and was followed straight in by a thief who then took his keys and car

yup a woman near me, came off the motorway in a brand new golf,
she had just collected it , so was probably followed,
parked on the drive, went to have a wee indoors ,
came back out and the car was gone ..
Oh talking of all this.
On you and yours the other day they discussed the police seizing cars that had been bought by people not realizing they had been stolen.
Now the very important bit is - if the criminal bought the car from someone using a stolen credit card/bank details and then you buy the car off them the police can not seize the car and return it to the original owner! (even though they have been in many cases). The car in this situation can only be returned to the original owner through court proceedings which will actually probably only involve the banks/credit card companies and it's quite likely you will end up keeping the car or getting a full reimbursement. So if this ever happens you make sure you insist the police tell you how the car was stolen and if it was paid for with false bank/credit card details.

The broke in via the front door, up the hall about 10ft, then into the lounge. Tried extracting the TV but too many cable ties, and then moved on the next easiest item, PS4 but in a hurry they left behind the power supply but removed the games and controllers, along with a handbag and two sets of keys from two different rooms.

Will keep my eyes open as I work up that way. Have a look around Quarry Bank Workshops off Oxton road, there is a large rotation of cars that sit round there for a week or so then disappear.

The annoying thing is even if you are victim and Police recover the vehicle you have to pay to get it back !
Somebody I know had a moped stolen from their home (parents) despite being chained to a railing around the side of the house. They were on holiday so father went to collect when luckily recovered. He was told only owner could collect so by the time chap I know came back off holiday the storage fees exceeded the value of the moped (and insurance refused to pay out either nor pay storage fees) so he lost everything.

I wonder if anyone has challenged that in court? Or even with the chief constable directly? The car hasn't been placed there under the owners actions, its recovered stolen goods that are very traceable. Its not unknown for the police to decide such things being chargeable locally only to be dressed down by central gov.
