I'll keep with my trend of posting everything I weld up on here so here goes
The car was fitted with a small spoiler at the factory and then the previous numpty, i mean owner, put an M3 spoiler on there.
He did this by closing his eyes, placing the drill on the bootlid and going 'about there will do.'
I removed the spoiler a few months ago and performed a ghetto repair of putting tape over the holes that were left
It was about time I sorted it properly.
Off with the boot so I could work on it in the garage.
Cue the rainstorm
I hope the plastic sheet holds up.
The damage:
Then the underside which was bodged to match:
Becuase the holes were so mangled I decided to cut a square out and replace a section, plus I made a small piece for the larger holes:
Then the welding, I didn't take many pictures of this part becuase as usual I got carried away and just got on with it:
I didn't dare try and seam this part in as I didn't was the bootlid to warp, so I just joined the dots bit-by-bit until it was fully welded.
The same was done on the underside and then I ground it all back:
This looks a little messy as the light reflected off it in a funny way due to the different directions I held the flap wheel at, but it was nice and flat when done.
I'm most proud of this shot lol
I had to weld up the smaller holes that were drilled and I was sort of guessing here. The way I did it was to use a low power setting and try and weld the edge of the hole, then build on that weld in different directions until the hole was filled. Is that the correct way? are there better ways?
I lil' bit of filler:
Then some etch primer:
I've slapped some top coat on it just to protect it (some metallic black
it's all I had) as the boot will be painted properly when the car goes in for some other bits.
