Just a quick update.
Cheers rtbcomp for the link to Beal. Their sticky tape is indeed sticky.
I had an down pipe to modify to fit a Rover 60 so had an opportunity to test the tape to point of destruction.
By the time I'd finished the weld the tape looked like something the wife had cooked me for dinner….. but the blank stayed on.
The photo's say it all. First one shows the set up and the second shows the penetration bead.
