Steel rule die material

I had one of those ideas today.......
Er indoors wants me to make up a few fridge magnets. I thought print them on vinyl, mount them on magnetic vinyl, make a die up and cut them out. Trouble is I cant find where to get the material to make the die from. Etsy is selling it for £3 a 30" length and £51 postage from the states but I am obviously not searching for the right stuff cause I cant find any in the UK. Anyone got any ideas ?

Any type of high carbon tool steel or knifemaking steel would do. Something like A2 or O1 anything that is hardenable.

Thing is, assuming you didn't know that makes me wonder if you realise what you are letting yourself in for making a hardenable die from scratch.

I’ve got a couple of brand new bits I’ve picked up from a place I was working at a few years ago. They made blades for cardboard stamping.

I was going to make a die for something.
I scrounged a broken bandsaw blade to use as rule.

depends how many you want to cut if its only 2 or 3 you could just use mild steel to make a punch and die for use with vinyl..... or might just be easier to make a metal template and cut round it with a craft knife.

So I've noticed , back in the mid 90's we used to make our own dies for Hot Foiling blanks (or something like that) with stock from one of our suppliers. If memory serves me right the lads used to bend them to shape and harden and temper before use. I should have paid more attention but I was too busy playing with other things.
I am aware you can get printable magnetic vinyl media - my balls are not big enough to try it through my machine, laminating on top will be just fine...... As she is going to want at least 100 of these things a die is the way to go, besides if it proves to be doable without too much hassle it might turn out to be another string to the bow.

I have found the stuff, it called universal cutting rule and it priced at just over £1 per meter. Thanks for the help.
