I'm giving a this price is valid for 7 days on all quotes at the moment.
I've don't think ive seen steel at this price , but its been up and down for at least the last 15 years i have been involved in procurement.
I think it was about 8-9 years ago that stockholders were giving prices valid for 48 hours, so its nothing new...
I've knocked ours down to 48 hours.
I hear from a couple of the sales lads at Barretts that there's rumours its going up again 1st feb by £30/T.
cant you get some from UK?I got a 8x4 3mm sheet last week at £64+vat. The issue seems to be more on the galv sheets.
There's a 25% tax levy on steel coming into Northern Ireland from outside the UK !
B&M ship to Orkney so they may well send that way toocant you get some from UK?
It's not that simple, mate of mine works at Heathrow, they are down to 1/10th turnover, but a lot of seat space is being used to move cargo (ok light cargo). Quite funny, they have to slide it down the steps...It could well be the World wide shipping crisis causing this. Container prices have trebled. There is a massive shortage of containers and all the stuff that used to move by air is now moving by sea as so few planes are flying.
A container that used to cost £2000 is now costing anything up to £10,000.
Ports are all rammed as well.
And didn't Trump stick on a load of tariffs on China?
Did not do to well then. I was quoted 90 quid per sheet today for 3mm UK mainland.Thing is, 90% of what i sell goes to the UK mainland, but as Northern Ireland is still within the EU customs territory there is a 25% levy on steel brought in from outside the UK, that means i can't be competitive to UK mainland manufacturers who aren't getting the 25% levy.
Boris screwed Northern Ireland over to get a deal done for the rest of the UK!
My son's gaffa is buying any rebar they can get their hands on as they are expecting it to go through the roof at the begining of April.I've knocked ours down to 48 hours.

But that should not make 8 X 4 3mm worth 90 quid.T Met are £170/t for general scrap.
That was Friday a week ago.

Inflation will be out of control if prices rise like that.
