Steel prices for welding bench

I just managed to sort out some steel sections for my welding bench and thought I would post how much I paid for them as a reference and to see what people think to the prices.

I got the following steel parts:

4 x 1500mm , 40x40mm, 3mm box section

5 x 800mm, 40x40mm 3mm box section (10m total for both)

4 x 800mm, 70x70mm 3mm box section for the legs (3.2m total)

1 x 1000mm x 1700mm, 10mm flat steel for the surface

I got all this for £200 from a local fabrication company. I couldn't find a better price anywhere online especially when you add the delivery charges and especially as the 10mm flat steel plate is normally quite expensive. What does everyone think to that?

I reckon you've done pretty well there Andy, I'm building a 4 x 2 mobile welding bench.

Got a 2ft x 4ft x 1/4" plate for £20 from a local fab shop which was awesome, but its just cost me £80 for 14m of 50x50x2 box (delivered).

I probably should have done the same as you, the local fab places tend to buy in bulk and have lots of offcuts that can be used for small projects like these.....live and learn.

The guy had to order it in so that price was including delivery to them because they didn't have any of it in stock so the price for all of it seems to be pretty good. I also got a lot of offcuts of steel and stainless which he threw in to practice on so all in all it worked out ok and now I know of a decent local place to get it from instead of ordering it online and paying large delivery fees.
