steel plate costs ?

I have been asked to make up some open sided steel boxes for silhouette bays at the gun club rifle range. They are there to stop any ricochets flying off into the wild blue yonder. Can anyone tell me roughly what steel plate costs in 3mm and 4mm thicknesses ? I have not bought any in years.

I always thought sheet was anything measured in swg, and anything above that was plate. Anyway, i'll probably need a few sheets at least, i'm not paying for it, but i do need to know the price.

last lot I got was 65 euro plus vat, that's 3mm and was called plate on invoice

probably best to phone around your local suppliers - delivery costs might outweigh any savings.
Calculate around Eu120 a sheet, you won't be far off - that should cover any cutting/local delivery.

As an aside, local scrapyard is now only paying £50 a tonne for mild steel scrap!

I got 3mm plate of 2m x 1m for a cost of £40.80 plus VAT, with other stuff as well but that was the line price I paid.

ASD Metals,l so I need to figure where Welderpaul is getting his from, but suspect, I will never get his quantities of metal.

From a specialist plate supplier, only had a couple of 3mm plates for a small job, but we might order 7-8 tonne of 6mm plate for stair treads one week, couple of tonne of 10mm plate the following week etc. We go through a lot of steel, so can obviously command some pretty decent prices.

For the last few years I've always worked it out at a euro/kg when working out the cost of steel. Obviously if your getting a lot it'll bring the cost down but it's never too far out on the actual price.

0000000SWG is 1/2" thick. I've always considered 3mm and above to be plate, though Wiki seems to think 6mm+ is plate.

thats it im adding my next restock onto welder pauls next delivery at that prices so worth getting a large stock of it

all that needs after that is picking it up from there

I don't think the sheet / plate thing is fixed, its just whatever anyone thinks it is.

4 mm feels like a sheet to me, ie it wobbles. 6mm is heavy , and says plate to me.

And the range inspector will only permit the use of standard velocity .22lr, no high or hyper velocity rounds are permitted.

I have some 4/5 mm but it's not for sending. Sure someone has what you need 3mm might not stand up long enough I should avoid that
