Steel pivots

I'm currently researching a new project and I'm wondering about an all steel pivot. Basically a steel shaft fitting nicely into a steel tube with enough clearance to rotate but not rattle.

Can I expect 25mm shaft to fit nicely into 25mm cds tubing and rotate freely or am I being a bit naive??

As in the photo, it's the central shaft and hub I need, the four wheel shafts are straight forward enough.

No. Tubing is measured by it's OD. Pipe by ID.

What's it for. Far better to bush it out with Brass/Bronze/Delrin/DU/Oilite etc

My guess is 'walking' suspension for an autonomous vehicle...

I guess what I'm asking is, can I take 25mm bright round bar and expect it to fit snuggly into 35mm tubing (5mm wall). And if so is CDS suitable or DOM or..........??

As an alternative, I can use a third pair of hubs for the centre pivot however for the limited amount of movement it hardly warrants bearings etc. A greasy pivot will suffice.

I can't see why not. However also expect it to seize in no time. For the cost, fit a bush

I'd fit grease nipples too.

I had intended fitting grease nipples anyhow.

So what is involved with fitting a bush? I have limited equipment and no lathe.

Is it something I can buy off the shelf?

Why bother they are cheap and readily available.

I would use tophat profile, to give a full bearing to all surfaces

you couldn't get some 10mm plate drill it to the right size and weld it to the ends of the pipes some heavy washers might also work
if you going to look for a pipe make sure there isn't a weld seam on the inside
and I'm still not sure what you're making
