Steel identification

Hi all

I've bought a job lot of bar ends etc but to be honest I've got no idea of what I've got. Quite a few of the bars have a painted end which I'm assuming is for identification purposes - anybody got a link to a site that will tell me what these colours mean ?

Are colour codes universal?
I always assumed that they were manufacturer specific.

Colour codes are not universal, they can vary from company to company, I could never understand why a universal format has never been established?

As far as I know there is a standard[bound to be when you think about it], but they don't necessarily stick to it. On the parkersteel site there is a page with the colours. I think the parker colours agree with my macreadys steel book colours, EN 16,19,24 and 36 certainly do. That ashmoreandallen link didn't all agree with macreadys[the few I could remember colours and numbers].

If there is a standard, I'd like to know what is. I've got all the colours of the rainbow on my rack, but only 4 or 5 grades of steel! W/A

Maybe a colour standard is a job for europe, then they could come round and fine you for having all them different colours;-)

got any EN36 there? just reamed a hole in my crankcases to fecking big and got to make a new spindle..
