Hi,
I am looking for a way of storing my trailer when not is use (250kg 8x4 size). I have a 2 post ramp in the garage and a 3.5m ceiling height so my thoughts are to build a frame that I could lift the trailer onto using the ramp to get it up out of the way.
Initial thoughts are something like the sketch attached. 2 frames with columns in the corner of garage then 6m length spanning between them (3m high, 3.5m wide, 6m deep). The 2 steels on top would then be "loose" so I can slide them away, lift trailer up, slide under trailer and lower it down.
Can anyone advise how I would calculate the size of steels required? Also, I am thinking it may be worth making it heavy duty enough that I could use it to lift an engine if required (so say a max 1000kg load)?
Still not decided that I will 100% go down this route but want to get a rough idea of steel requirements so I can price it up and weigh up alternatives.
Cheers, Andy
