Steel for fire pits

Does anyone here know anywhere in the UK I can get steel hemispheres to make fire pits? I foolishly said I would look I to it for a couple of friends but now I'm struggling to find a supplier! Looking for about 800mm ish diameter

Hunt down an old gas tank on eBay, a bit of cutting and patching up should produce something close to what you want fairly cheaply.

Doughnut or torpedo LPG tanks but make sure you vent or flare off the gas prior to getting a torch near it. I recently bought an ex Land Rover LPG tank that took me 3 hours to burn off the gas. Doughnut tanks have a central cylinder connecting the 2 halves plus a backing strip behind the half joint.

Does it take 3 hrs because the LPG held in some porous stuff? Like the Explo-safe type stuff?
I would have expected it to take more like 3 seconds otherwise..

wheN I made a gas bottle burner I made sure it was out of gas, undid the valve filled it with water for two days then cut it and was fine

Does lpg linger more than propane?

Use strips of steel like a flower petal.

The LPG is stored as a liquid under pressure so when the pressure is released it vaporises and must either be flared off or you risk a cloud of flammable gas floating across the landscape. The gas is heavier than air so care needed to ensure it doesn’t fill drains or hollows.

A lot more cutting and welding but you could always make up a geodesic fire pit from flat stock.

Iv made them out of discs before if your in the right place at the right time and a sets being replaced your get as many as you wish for scrap.

Yes but getting unusual these days, the vast majority have gone, at least in these waters.
Portsmouth docks recently had to dredge the harbour deeper, so the new aircraft carriers can use it.

I was idly chatting with a retired Royal Navy diver, and he said lots of dangerous things were found by the dredgers.. old cannonballs and cannons, some bombs etc as you'd expect, dropped by the Luftwaffe, but lots of lethal stuff which had been tipped over the side by RN sailors. in our own naval docks!

I found one recently washed up after a storm - only 3/4 of it left though and empty rusted through.
I also found a dummy bouncing bomb - a round practice one before they settled on the barrel shape.
