Steel filings and magnets!

I use a lot of magnetic wall mounted tool holder strips in my workshop.
Also use 45 degree magnetic welding clamps.

At present everything is covered in a layer of steel filings with all the grinding I've been doing.

Using the magnetic tool mounted holders also makes my screwdrivers and tools magnetic which gives them a coating of steel filings.

How do I get rid of all the steel filings?

Put some safety glasses on and use compressed air

I wrap a layer of clingfilm on those magnetic corner holder/square gadgets, makes easy work of cleaning them when they start to look like a hedgehog.

How do I get rid of all the steel filings?

Sticky tape or Blu-tack will pick up the filings, but more will probably appear quite soon.

I have magnetic tool holders & as you say the tools get magnetic, for the screwdrivers it's realy useful for holding small screws [steel of course] but I also have an eclipse demagnetiser as BS recomends so a quick stroke & the tools demagnetised especially usefull for files etc.

Or those little ziplock(?) bags. They might be a bit longer wearing than the clingfilm.

Do grinding and dirty work outside Store magnets in a box.

Make a magnet wand and wave it over all your surfaces to collect the grinding dust - I use one for sweeping up outside.

Magnet wand, is just a hollow plastic or alu tube with a strong magnet, cap on each end and a retractable ferrous handle against the magnet. You can make a washer peice to stop the dust following the magnet but I just use my hand

Wipe the 45 magnets with cloth then
masking tape will pull the small dust off.
