That's how I understood the rules, I always worked in factories and on a wage but if you are working for one employer you are classed as an employee in the government's eyes or for HMRC purposes.
Not always as a consultant provided you are not on any basic or retainer your fine
Many have set up separate limited companies to achieve this but honestly I did it for years without
