Startrite Bandsaw help

Hi all,

Got a 3ph startrite horizontal saw and having problems with the blade keep jumping off.
Changed all the bearings in the gearbox and the other wheel and got them all in line so the blade runs up against the lip on the wheel.
The blade seems to jam when cutting flat and pops the blade off.
Feed is set to almost nothing, and speed is (according to the sticker) 255 ft/min.
Getting bl00dy annoying now!

Any ideas what else to check?

Are the wheels banded / tyred / what?

They should either have a crown (domed profile) to keep the blade centred or (I think) have a smooth, flat profiled rubber 'tyre' with no crown. I bet its the tyres / wheels in a crappy state. Startrite are really helpful folks. Give 'em a call.

Also worth checking the alignment of the guide rollers.

Is the clamp firmly holding the workpiece? Is the blade on the right way round?! Unless you're stupidly miles out this isn't going to be a feed rate / cutting speed issue.

Is the frame itself straight and true (have you used it before ok?), is the blade tension correct (correct length blade?), is the main pivot excessively worn? Does the upper chassis bounce around at all? How about a mitre pivot - is it locked up tight if it has one? Is there play in it?

Its prob the main wheels to be honest. There's a few things to check first of all.

If all of the above check out, it can be the blade itself taken a set. I had one on my bandsaw that wouldnt track when cutting under load no matter what I did, and after going through all the bearings guides etc, in frustration I just bought a replacement, and that ran true without any hassles.
